Nearby is a long sand beach; beyond, on the outskirts of Glenelg village, is the impressive shell of General Wade's 18th century barracks. In the village itself, (1.5 miles) there is a well-stocked shop (01599 522221), and an inn which serves excellent food. Ruth's cafe in the village hall is open most mornings in season (07900 438380). A few minutes' drive beyond are the famous Pictish Brochs and four miles further down the coast is Gavin Maxwell's "Camusfearna". A six-car ferry leaves from a slipway 300 yards from the house.
